What to do this Summer?
“What are you doing over the summer?” is a question that many college students are asked this time of year. The answer can be anything from volunteering with local nonprofit organizations, traveling to see America and beyond, expressing the desire to find a job or internship for the summer, to nothing at all. University Career Services (UCS) would like to give a big Georgia State University Thank You to the 470 students and 39 employers who attended our annual Summer Part-Time Job and Internship Fair (SPTJIF), eclipsing last year’s participation of 374 students and 34 employers!
The SPTJIF took place on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Dahlberg Hall/Veterans Hall and offered a wide range of opportunities for Georgia State University students to consider. The event, administered by the Employer Relations Office of UCS, was able to connect students to positions in the fields of hospitality, customer service, marketing, information technology, recreational support and more.
Summer jobs can be an integral part of a future professional’s career development. Whether working as a counselor at a youth summer camp or parking cars at a high-end Buckhead restaurant, summer jobs provide real-world life experiences engaging with others, enhancing communication skills and overcoming challenges. How valuable are summer jobs? Steve Jobs met future business partner Steve Wozniak while working a summer job at Hewlett-Packard. They started Apple together in 1976, and Apple was recently on campus for the SPTJIF – coincidence? Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood worked a summer job as a lifeguard – perhaps that explains the line in front of the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Aquatics Department table at the SPTJIF.
Although the SPTJIF has passed, there are still many opportunities available! If you are a Georgia State University student seeking a job or internship for the summer or an employer seeking talented, hardworking individuals, be sure to utilize Panther Career Net to search for opportunities or post your available positions.
