Soledad O’Brien: Distinguished Speaker Series

ATLANTA, GA, November 5, 2015 — Leading media journalist Soledad O’Brien will offer a behind-the-scenes look at her work on Monday, November 16, as the third speaker in the 2015-16 Distinguished Speaker Series hosted by Spotlight Programs Board at Georgia State University.

An award-winning journalist, documentarian, news anchor and producer, O’Brien has established herself as one of the most recognized names in broadcasting, bringing wider exposure to some of the most important issues and stories in the world through her coverage of breaking news, critically acclaimed documentaries and empowering initiatives. She is the originator of the series “Black in America” and “Latino in America,” which are among CNN’s most successful domestic and international franchises. She came to CNN from NBC News, where she anchored the network’s “Weekend Today.”

Georgia State University students, faculty and staff with a valid Panther ID are invited to attend this free event, which will take place at 3 p.m. in the Student Center East Ballroom. Doors will open at 2 p.m. Seating is limited and will be first come, first served. Guests outside of the Georgia State community will be admitted on a standby basis if space permits. There will be no ticket purchase or other requirement for admission.

An authentic, engaging speaker, O’Brien will share inspiring narratives about the importance of making a difference and her commitment to exploring and uncovering the most important issues and stories in the world. In 2013, she launched Starfish Media Group, a multiplatform media production and distribution company dedicated to uncovering and producing empowering stories that take a challenging look at the often divisive issues of race, class, wealth, poverty and opportunity.

O’Brien is a special correspondent for Al Jazeera’s flagship show, “America Tonight,” and a correspondent for HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.” She has won numerous Emmy and Peabody awards for her reporting.
