No Charge for Built-in AV for Student Organizations
Although the Student Center hosted 6,496 chartered student organization meetings or events in FY16, it is an 8 percent decrease from the 7,078 meeting or events hosted in FY15. Chartered student organization use of the Student Center in FY16 accounted for 60 percent of all of the meeting and events held. To fulfill the Student Center’s vision of being “…the campus living room for our diverse students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests of Georgia State University by continually assessing their needs and exceeding their expectations through an intentionally-designed, welcoming, safe and inclusive environment,” the Student Center must look at how current policies and pricing may be inhibiting chartered student organizations’ use of the Student Center. The Student Center has several ongoing collaborative groups that focus on issues that are department wide. One of those collaborative groups, led by Jeannie Cho, the event planning manager, has been reviewing the policies and procedures over the past year and making recommendations to the Student Center Advisory Council for their input.

As of Monday, October 17, 2016, the Student Center will no longer charge chartered student organizations for use of the built-in AV equipment in meeting rooms (with the exception of Cinefest, Speakers Auditorium and the Ballroom Salons). Because student labor is involved, fees for the mobile technology carts (T-Carts) that are used in the remainder of the rooms will continue to be charged. These fees were lowered from $35 to $20 in July of 2016. A complete listing of all AV and Equipment Rental fees is available at Event Planning Resources.
In addition, while the Student Center Event Management office will continue to take reservation requests via email, they will be hosting information sessions for student leaders and departments on how to utilize the online reservation software to make room requests from the comfort of their home or office at any time of day. Event Management is also available to meet with in person to assist organization and departments with planning a successful event. Event Management staff will be utilizing OrgSync to contact all student organizations to inform them of the pricing changes, the information session and a soon to be administered survey regarding how the Student Center can better serve their needs.
